Chamber Welcomes Momentum on National Energy Infrastructure and Market Access

The Fort Saskatchewan & Lamont County Regional Chamber of Commerce welcomes recent announcements regarding major energy infrastructure proposals that have the potential to strengthen Canada's economy, expand market access, and support long-term investment.

Particularly significant for our region is the proposed West Coast Oil Pipeline, which would originate near Bruderheim before connecting Alberta energy production to Canada's west coast. The announcement comes alongside broader discussions around major national infrastructure projects, including the proposed Northern Shield Energy Corridor linking Alberta and Ontario.

Gerald Corbiere, Vice-President of the Chamber of Commerce and a Bruderheim resident, welcomed the announcement:

"Bruderheim is located at the heart of Alberta's Industrial Heartland. With extensive infrastructure supporting the energy industry, our region is uniquely positioned for a project of this magnitude. Local businesses and communities are encouraged by the potential growth, investment, and economic opportunities that could result from a project of this scale. While important steps remain in the approval process, we are hopeful the project will continue to move forward."

The significance for our region extends beyond the pipeline itself. The proposed starting point is located adjacent to one of Canada's largest concentrations of industrial, petrochemical, refining, manufacturing, and logistics activity. As home to one of Canada's most significant industrial and energy-processing regions, our communities are uniquely positioned to contribute to projects that strengthen Canada's economic resilience and global competitiveness.

The Chamber recognizes that major infrastructure projects require consultation, regulatory review, environmental assessment, and meaningful Indigenous engagement. Continued collaboration among industry, Indigenous partners, governments, and communities will be essential as these projects advance.

The Chamber is encouraged by the momentum surrounding strategic infrastructure development and the opportunities it could create for businesses, workers, and communities across our region. We look forward to following the project's progress in the months and years ahead.
