Statement on Recent Alberta–Canada MOU Developments
The Fort Saskatchewan and Lamont County Regional Chamber of Commerce is pleased to see continued progress following the signing of the Alberta–Canada Memorandum of Understanding last fall.
The recent implementation agreement represents a positive step forward and demonstrates that ongoing collaboration between Alberta and Ottawa can produce meaningful results. Recent announcements related to streamlined project approvals, industrial carbon pricing certainty, and expanded market access show momentum on key priorities that matter to Alberta’s economy and Canada’s long-term competitiveness.
As the Chamber representing businesses at the centre of Alberta’s Industrial Heartland, we recognize the importance of policies that encourage investment certainty, responsible infrastructure development, and access to global markets. Efforts such as the “one project, one review” approach and continued discussions around major trade-enabling infrastructure are encouraging signs that the MOU is beginning to bear fruit.
While important work remains ahead, including implementation and continued consultation with Indigenous communities and stakeholders, we are encouraged by the direction of recent developments and look forward to continued progress that supports economic growth, business confidence, and long-term prosperity for our region and country.
